My Portfolio

Welcome to my portfolio! Here you will find a collection of web sites that highlight my design skills. These sites were chosen over others because all the graphics, page layout, and coding was done by myself. I also maintain creative control over these sites, and I host most of them on my Debian Linux web server using apache 2 and it's virtual server utility. If you're interested in my skills, don't waste any time, contact me now - I'll be happy to discuss your needs. I would also like to make it clear that I'm not limited to the themes and layouts you see on these sites - I can make a site however you want it to look!

Catalina-Group.com

catalina group

Catalina Group is a local Seattle real estate company that originally wanted a 3 column layout with fixed width sidebars and a stretchy center. However, the company was short on content, photos, and time. So, to save the site from looking completely barren, I recommended using the same navigation bar used on this site (they originally wanted side navigation) and a two column layout until they developed more content. I saw this as the fastest and most affordable option, and they were very happy with the results. The company now has two style sheets to choose from, and a great site to showcase their new homes. NorthWestSurf.com

North West Surf Report

A goup of Washington surfers contacted me to create the a website specifically for Northwest surfers. They wanted a site that had all of their favorite links to the best forecasting tools, a message board, and a news page for local events and happenings. Given my open source background, and the fact that my server runs Debian Linux, I new I would be using PHP and MySQL. I choose to use phpBB2 for security reasons, and overall it came out very nice. Getting MySQL and PHP5 working together involved some minor editing of the php.ini file and MySQL settings. For search optimization I removed the session id's built into PhpBB2 because they cause the forum pages to be completely ignored by search engine robots.

Madronamassage.com

Madrona Massage

Madrona Massage uses the octopus engine developed by Anand Sharma. This site is completely scalable - just like most of my other sites - but it demonstrates the ability to create a stretchy box around a div of text that can accomodate anyones text-size preference. Please try viewing this site in a modern browser (firefox, konqueror, safari, or opera). When you press [ctrl +] (or [apple +] if you use a mac) you can see how the boxes adjust!. This is a great tool if you're looking for a flexible site that can accomodate many different user preferences.

Timelessblues.com

Timeless Blues

This site has a standard two colum layout, overhead navigation, and it's basic in concept and design. Like most of the sites I create, it doesn't depend on big background images, tables, or huge chunks of Javascript for its visual style. The site was created for a singer/songwriter duo, and it will go live when their new album comes out. Nonetheless, I decided to put it here because it really has a great web 2.0 look and feel to it - sweet and simple. Sites like this are perfect for servers that don't have a great deal of bandwidth or lack raw processing power and ram to serve up pages.
