About Overcast Designs

Overcast Designs was created using GNU software (Debian GNU/Linux, Vi, Gimp, PHP5, and MySQL), and is operated entirely by myself - Joshua Williams. Even though I create all my sites using Linux, I test every page in all the major browsers (I use WINE to test IE and have access to Mac OS X). When I start a design, I have the intention of reaching as many possible users as possible. For this reason you won't find any of my sites made with Flash or containing text embedded navigation images. The whole purpose of the web is to share information, but if your web site doesn't do that, it kind of defeats the purpose. Not only that, but it also reflects poorly on your company or organization - and your future (or current) patrons will ultimately go else where. By choosing my services, you can rest assured that you will reach the very highest percentage of web users because I follow today's web standards.

Web Standards

The primary aim Overcast Designs is to make the web better, and I believe this can be done by embracing web standards set by the W3C. If you're interested in what I can do with a computer, don't hesitate to leave me a message or give me a call if you'd like to discuss your needs. And while I'm especially interested in contract work, consulting, and GNU-Linux, I am willing to come out of my shell a bit. I also don't automatically rule out working on some crazy project or a long-term job with the right company. So if you're curious, your best bet is to get in touch.

Skills Vs. Experience

I have been doing web design for nearly two years, and I've been using GNU/Linux for over five. There are many other professionals who have many more years in the industry than myself. However, many of these "experienced" developers still create their pages with bad habits that I haven't had time to develop. You won't find any tables, in line tags, or chunky Javascript for a simple rollover images on any of my sites. Moreover, you won't be overcharged (I rarely go over an estimate), and you will definitely not be disappointed.
